Road Maintenance Operator

  • $ 34 per hour casual rates + super
  • Ongoing with a view to full time
  • Roster: Mon – Fri 9:00AM – 5:00PM (Sat OT is available at times but not mandatory)
  • Training provided
  • Dandenong location

The Role

Your primary purpose in this position is:

  • Maintain the city by undertaking labouring duties, operating Works unit plant and equipment, and performing a range of associated tasks in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Supervise and/or assist in the training of other Roads & Drains team members or casual hire staff as required.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

In this position, you are responsible for:

  • Carry out maintenance activities relating to the Council’s Civil Infrastructure, specifically Roads and Drains.
  • Ensure work complies with safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform all work to the standard specified by Council.
  • Operate specialised plant in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Undertake labouring duties as needed.
  • Care for and maintain allocated plant according to Council procedures.
  • Resolve routine problems related to assigned tasks.
  • Maintain records and provide information as required, including using a hand-held computer.
  • Promote a positive image of the Council through high standards of personal presentation and courteous service.
  • Undertake training as required and provide guidance and on-the-job training for other employees.
  • Perform Emergency Management duties as required.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding ratepayers, customers, and employees.

To be considered for this role you should have:

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Heavy-Rigid HR Driver’s License (valid & essential)
  • Traffic Control and Traffic Management Certificate
  • Experience in maintaining Civil Infrastructure, with a focus on roads and drainage construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate various Roads & Drains plant and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-Driven: Demonstrates dedication and enthusiasm while working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to commit to rosters with a proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
