The Role

Your primary purpose in this position is working with Asphalt crew repairing pothole and other duties.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Participate in Civil Maintenance tasks and programs to Council standards and policies.
  • Provide a rapid response service as required and as deemed appropriate.
  • Responsible for the care of plant, tools and equipment, and to fulfill daily allocated tasks.
  • Perform operational duties – Patch potholes and pavement defects, work with subcontractors to repair major road defects.
  • Report any observed road maintenance issues (e.g. potholes, missing pit lids, apply absorbent to spills etc.) that may need reactive attention.
  • Provide traffic control for other crews as required.
  • Monitor and report to the Team Leader/Area Leader items of vehicular maintenance.
  • Perform daily maintenance of vehicle and plant.
  • Operate vehicles, truck mounted crane and small plant (demolition saw, compactor plate, etc.) as per manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Support bylaws and management in reducing illegal dumping and deposits of material on roads, e.g. report rubbish with identification before removal to allow prosecution.
  • Ensure relevant use of personal safety clothing and equipment.
  • Ensure that works are undertaken and maintained in a safe manner to both employees and public as per governing standards including quality and health and safety guidelines.

To be considered for this role you should have:

  • Competence in use of small plant and truck mounted crane.
  • Knowledge of flocon and vibrating smooth drum roller.
  • Competence in pavement patching including use of screed board and vibrating plate compactor.
  • Experience in asphalt or other civil maintenance works.
  • Experience and Certificate for truck mounted crane.
  • Current Victorian Drivers licence including Truck licence (up to 13.9T)
  • National Police Check (with Stat Dec) issued within the last 6 months
  • Ability to commit to rosters with a proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
