  • Up to $52.87 per hour casual rate + Super
  • Ongoing casual which may lead to a perm role
  • Roster is 38 hours per week, Monday - Friday (8:30am-5:00pm)

The Role

The purpose of this role will be to overseeing reactive and proactive Tree Maintenance Programs, which cover cyclic street tree management, park tree management, bushland tree management and reactive tree works



Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:


  • Well-developed conflict and problem resolution skills in both face-to-face and over-the-telephone situations, with a focus on the community.
  • Assist with the development of maintenance strategies, policies, procedures, and programs in relation to the management of vegetation, whilst ensuring compliance with agreed service levels.
  • Provide external contractor management and surveillance, and keep the Team Leader – Arboriculture informed of significant matters pertaining to the status of works in progress, including the processing of contractual payments.
  • Facilitate the resolution of on-site matters, and authorize, within delegated authority, appropriate corrective strategies.
  • Ensure arboricultural programs are carried out within Council’s budget and specifications, and assist with the notification and consultation activities with residents and contractors.
  • Provide specialist advice and high-level written and verbal reports on Council tree matters, including works and planning applications, and hazardous tree applications to internal and external stakeholders, including Councillors, executive team, and staff.
  • Contribute to the input of quality in-field data collection (GPS) that will form the basis of vegetation management programs, and assist in the development of arboricultural programs to meet strategic and sustainable target objectives.
  • Evaluate non-routine (potential high-risk or sensitive) customer requests relating to street/reserve trees, through inspection and investigation, to provide detailed recommendations and/or technical reports, using objective decision-making.
  • Assist the Team Leader - Arboriculture in the preparation of tree management budgets and the reviewing/development of relevant contracts.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest developments and legislation changes in relation to tree maintenance, in particular those that may enhance or impact upon the development and delivery of tree maintenance services, including the use of environmental, sustainable, and energy-related solutions.
  • Contribute to the response during and after “Extreme Weather Events,” including the coordination of contractors, the collection of relevant data, and the application for Natural Disaster Financial Assistance from government agencies, ensuring the integrity of the process.


To be considered for this role:

  • Experience as an Arborist and in tree assessments including the ability to assess tree related risk and identify appropriate controls.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability in writing accurate and comprehensive arboricultural reports and the preparation of external correspondence.
  • Well-developed conflict and problem resolution skills in both face to face and over the telephone situations, with a focus on the community.
  • Licence and competencies to:

    o Working with Children Check

    o National Police Check issued within the last 6 months upon application
  • Ability to commit to rosters with a proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
