Our client, a local Queensland Government Council, are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join their Payroll Team team to support the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services across Council. As a Payroll Officer with Local Council, you’ll play a key role in ensuring wages and salaries are processed accurately and on time and maintaining compliance with relevant awards, legislation and Council policies. You’ll work closely with the Payroll Coordinator and internal stakeholders to provide high-quality payroll services in a professional and confidential manner.

  • Monday – Friday | Full-time (8:00am – 5:00pm)

In this role you will:

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of end-to-end payroll for wages and salaried staff
  • Maintain and update employee master records including tax, superannuation, bank details and deductions
  • Audit trial pay runs and timesheets to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Input timesheets, exception reports, overtime and back-pay calculations
  • Interpret awards and ensure payroll processes align with statutory and legislative requirements
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and stakeholders while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Maintain accurate payroll records to support audit requirements
  • Prepare wage-related statistics for external agencies where required

The ideal candidate is highly organised, detail-focused and confident working with large volumes of numerical data. You understand the importance of confidentiality, enjoy working in a structured environment, and take pride in delivering accurate payroll outcomes. You will also have:

  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end payroll processes
  • Award interpretation experience and understanding of superannuation, taxation and statutory provisions
  • High-level data entry accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and use initiative
  • A collaborative and professional approach to stakeholder engagement
  • Experience with computerised payroll systems (TechnologyOne highly desirable)
