Picker / Sorter - Recycling Plant

Our client has a long-standing history in the Australian construction and recycling industry, with recycling facilities and asphalt plants across Melbourne and Brisbane. They are committed to recovering and recycling construction materials to produce sustainable products used across major infrastructure projects.

An excellent opportunity is available for physically fit and reliable Sorters / Pickers to join a leading Australian recycling and sustainable construction materials operation based in Laverton. This is an ongoing casual position offering Monday to Friday hours.

The opportunity

Working within a recycling and demolition plant, you will be responsible for sorting and removing unwanted materials from recycled demolition products as they move along a conveyor belt.

This is a fast-paced role that requires good hand-eye coordination, physical fitness and the ability to remain focused while performing repetitive tasks.

Duties include:

• Standing on a conveyor belt for extended periods
• Picking and removing unwanted materials such as plastic and debris
• Sorting materials into the appropriate bins
• Shovelling debris and assisting with general housekeeping
• Identifying potential hazards and maintaining a safe work environment
• Performing general manual handling duties
• Working both indoors and outdoors depending on operational requirements
• Following workplace health and safety procedures

To be considered, you will need

• Previous experience in a labouring, recycling, warehouse, construction or similar environment is desirable but not mandatory
• Physically fit and able to perform repetitive manual tasks
• Comfortable standing for extended periods
• Able to work quickly and efficiently with your hands
• Comfortable working in a dirty and dusty environment
• Strong awareness of workplace safety and hazard identification
• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a busy work environment

Please note: This role is based within a recycling and demolition environment and can be dirty, dusty and physically demanding. Candidates must be comfortable working in these conditions. Appropriate PPE, including a mask, will be provided.
